The Role
We are proud to recruit a compassionate and committed SLD Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Special School in Liverpool starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in a nurturing and inclusive environment. You will work closely with class teachers and specialist staff to provide individualised support that enables every child to reach their full potential – academically, socially, and emotionally. This is a full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties in accessing a broad and balanced curriculum
• Provide tailored assistance to meet each child’s specific learning, communication, and care needs
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver consistent and effective support strategies
• Help to manage behaviour positively and sensitively, promoting independence and self-esteem
• Assist with personal care needs in a respectful and dignified manner, where required
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
What we are looking for
• Experience working with children or young people with SLD, PMLD, or complex needs in an educational or care setting
• A patient, resilient, and caring nature with a genuine passion for supporting learners with additional needs
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledge of SEN strategies, communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton), and sensory-based learning approaches is desirable
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils
