SEMH Teaching Assistant

The Role

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a school in the Trafford area. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with their education and flourish in a school setting. Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams, you’ll provide tailored support to make a meaningful difference in young lives. This is a full-time role.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage emotions and behaviour
• Assist in implementing strategies to promote positive engagement and emotional well-being in the classroom
• Support teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management for pupils with challenging behaviours
• Act as a calming and encouraging presence, building trust and confidence with pupils
• Collaborate with school staff to follow individual behaviour and education plans effectively
• Record observations and progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs as required

What we are looking for

• Experience or understanding of supporting children with SEMH needs in an educational or care setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with pupils and staff
• A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach, with the ability to handle challenging situations calmly
• Ideally a background working with young people (not mandatory but advantageous)
