Pastoral Coach (Part Time, Fixed Term)

About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for a Pastoral Coach to join our team in the Digital Arts department.

Working with students across our Digital Arts department, you will deliver a high-quality PHSCE and tutorial curriculum covering areas including personal development, relationships and wellbeing, safeguarding, healthy lifestyles, equality and diversity, British values, careers, employability, financial awareness and preparation for adulthood.

The Pastoral Coach will also provide vital support to students, fostering their personal and academic development by guiding them through academic challenges, offering emotional and practical support, and promoting their overall wellbeing.

Creative Media and Digital Arts is a department of more than 600 learners and 30 members of staff delivering Animation, Esports, Games Design and Development, Journalism, Media and TV & Film, based at our state-of-the-art Quarry Hill Campus. We deliver a varied curriculum of academic and technical skills to students mostly aged 16-19 at levels one, two and three, including T levels and Access to HE.

Please note, this is a part-time, fixed term role. You will work 22.2 hours per week until July 2027. The pro rata salary is 18,063 with progression to 19,149.

What You Will Do

• Plan and deliver engaging, relevant and inclusive PHSCE and tutorial sessions to students.
• Deliver group tutorials, study support sessions, and tailored 1:1 support to students, addressing personal development, academic skills, and offering guidance on both academic and personal issues.
• Create opportunities for students to discuss and explore real-world issues in a safe, respectful and appropriately challenging environment.
• Track and monitor progress towards achievement using assessment grades in ProMonitor markbooks, ensuring learner progress is tracked against their target grades and be responsible for achieving student outcomes.
• Assist with initial, diagnostic and formative assessment and provide support for students with their learning, using on-line support technology and education platforms.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and other support services to ensure students receive holistic support.

About You

• English & Maths qualification at L2 with a commitment to achieving L3 within 2 years of appointment if not already achieved.
• Supporting teaching and learning/teaching assistant or mentoring/coaching qualification or commitment to achieving within 1 year of appointment
• Demonstrates significant experience or knowledge of how to work successfully with different groups of students.
• Experience in improving student retention and attainment.
• Ability to relate to, support and work with, individuals of all ages and abilities.
• Ability to confidently manage learning and learning spaces, so that behaviour and progress have a positive impact on outcomes.
