Careers Advisor

As Careers Advisor, you will provide high-quality, impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance to students across Key Stages 4 and 5. You will support students to explore their options, make informed decisions and successfully progress to further education, training or employment. The role includes delivering one-to-one guidance interviews, organising careers events and work experience placements, supporting post-16 applications, tracking destinations, and working collaboratively with students, families, employers and external agencies to enhance career opportunities.

Overall Purpose of the role:

To support pupils, to provide impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance to students, to advise on the delivery of quality careers education, ensuring students have a wide range of opportunities and experiences provided to explore KS4, Post 16 pathways and for after sixth form.

To access and use a range of resources, both electronic and paper based, to increase the knowledge on a range of topics relating to the National Curriculum, students’ personal/social development and reading for pleasure. Lead extra-curricular activities including reading buddies and a debating/critical thinking club. To maintain a pool of resources for teachers, provide training where necessary and support teachers in the use of the resources in the classroom.

Safeguarding Requirement:

This post requires the post holder to work in settings with children and young adults. Any employment offer is therefore subject to the results of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). People who may have contact with younger children (i.e. primary school age) are also required to complete a declaration about family or other members of their household.

• Be able to demonstrate levels of numeracy and literacy to GCSE [A-C] or 4+

• Experience of using ICT as a learning resource. Practical knowledge of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, emails and researching information on the internet, and giving advice to others on the use of ICT

• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships with other members of staff and pupils to enrich learning experiences using the resources of the ILC

• Experience of selecting and adapting resources to be used to give learning opportunities to others appropriate to their ability

• Is willing to work flexibly within scope of overall hours, e.g. evening meetings.
